Amazon Prime debuts global in-show ads

FEATURE

Amazon Prime Video will start showing in-program ads globally today. 3.5 minutes of ads are expected to be shown per hour of viewing.

Estimates of 100+ million monthly viewers in the U.S. alone will further expand Amazon’s significant advertising business. 71% of US adults use Prime Video, putting it second to Netflix’s 77%.

Both Netflix and Disney Plus have also started incorporating advertisements as streaming platforms look to advertising as another source of revenue.

Amazon has created a strong pitch to advertisers who can leverage Amazon’s shopping data. Plus, they are starting with lower ad prices (reportedly around $30-35 CPM) to attract advertising budgets to Prime Video.
