🗞️ Digital Marketing Must-Knows
Announcement
Hello, Marketers.
You might notice that today's email looks a bit different.
Digital Marketing Must-Knows is no more* 😱
Digital Marketing Must-Knows filled a gap for Marketers needing a single source of performance marketing news. It has over 100,000 subscribers in just over a year (and is still growing by 9% p/m).
But, I've decided to rebrand to 'The Keyword' so I can challenge myself to offer more value.
The Keyword will give you:
The same digital marketing news, but you'll get it sooner (instead of waiting until Monday)
Short breakdowns of how world-class marketing operators are designing and executing their campaigns
3 emails per week: Mon, Wed, & Fri
Thank you for reading, and I hope you'll continue to get value from the new-and-improved version.

*You can continue to subscribe to Digital Marketing Must-knows on LinkedIn if you would prefer just one email per week. But you'll miss out on the best info, which I'll save for here!!

Round-Up
1. Meta is positioning a new app as the 'Instagram for your thoughts'. In March, Meta confirmed they are working on “a standalone decentralized social network for sharing text updates.” New details of the test have come out. The app will allow users to post updates of up to 500 characters. While separate from Instagram, the app can be accessed using IG credentials to log in. (Social Media Today ↗️)

2. But Bluesky is the current front-runner in the Twitter alternative market. The app has been downloaded 375,000+ times on iOS globally. The app is still restricted to invite-only so it remains to be seen if the exclusivity is driving the surge in interest (like with Clubhouse?). Or if the Jack Dorsey-backed product is a viable Twitter alternative. (Tech Crunch ↗️)
3. Amazon ads are coming to Pinterest. Pinterest will allow Amazon to place ads on the platform. The ads will lead to a “seamless on-Amazon” buying experience. The Pinterest CEO explained how the partnership “aligns with the goal of making every Pin shoppable”. While it boosts discoverability for products listed on Amazon. Roll is planned for Q3 2023. 4. YouTube Music launches Podcasts. Podcasts naturally found a home on YouTube and now specific features are on the way to help YouTube become even more of an audio destination. Through YouTube Music, users can switch between audio and audio + video versions of Podcasts. Offline listening is supported. The YouTube Music app will also have a dedicated Podcasts tab to improve the discoverability of shows. (The Verge ↗️)
5. Google clarified that Page Experience, Mobile-Friendliness, Page Speed, and Secure Sites are ranking ‘signals’ not ranking ‘systems.’ Google said: “Systems typically make use of signals”. Google caused confusion after they updated their official documentation. However, Google intended to be more accurate with their categorization rather than demote their importance, as initially thought. (Google ↗️)
