Feature

Last week, OpenAI launched Sora 2. The video quality jumped, as we’ve come to expect. But the bigger breakthrough could be the launch of their “Social app” where AI generates 100% of the content users see in their feed.

How We Got Here

Michael Mignano calls this Phase 3 of social media.

  • Phase 1: Reach = dictated by follower count.

  • Phase 2: TikTok’s “For You” feed matched content to user interests.

  • Phase 3: Platforms don’t just match content, they create it.

What Makes Sora 2 Different

Every user can create an AI avatar with their own face and voice. You can even let others make videos using your likeness. Sam Altman has hinted at revenue-sharing with users who license their AI selves to brands or other creators.

Mignano predicts platforms will reward unique concepts over raw views. That means brands in this next phase can use tools like Sora to scale content production infinitely, but still need creators to generate the novel ideas that drive engagement.
