1. Meta walks back strategy (for now) after getting heat for changes. Zuckerberg had said Meta would show at least x2 more content in feeds from accounts users don't follow. Currently, it's around 15%. Plus, a large number of users were given a full-screen photo/video version of the app, which didn't go down well with Kim Kardashian and lots of other IG users. But this back-track is temporary according to the Instagram CEO who says the solution lies in "better ranking and recommendations".

More nuggets of information from Meta's earnings call:
Meta is "ramping up ad load" for Reels, so there will be more supply of ad inventory available to advertisers.
Reels make up more than half of content re-shared in messages.
The overall average price per ad was down 14% quarter over quarter.
2. Apple plans to bring ads to the front of the app store. Large ad units on the app store 'Today' page are expected to roll out for testing. No doubt there will be plenty of eyeballs for advertisers to show a new app to potential customers. (The Verge โ๏ธ)
3. Google moved the target to phase out cookies to 2024. Google's alternative solution to cookies, Privacy Sandbox API, needs more time for testing. The trials will "expand to millions of users globally" in early August. (Google โ๏ธ)
4. YouTube videos can easily be chopped up into Shorts. Creators can select a video uploaded to YouTube and convert a clip into a YouTube Short video. The tool is available in the YouTube mobile apps. (Engaget โ๏ธ)
5. Snapchat's subscription business model takes off. Snapchat+ offers premium features at $3.99 and estimates are around $7m in revenue for month 1. Snapchat wanted to reduce reliance on ad revenue. While Twitter Blue increased their premium features from $2.99 to $4.99. (Tech Crunch โ๏ธ)
