Hello, Marketers.
I’m late publishing this edition after traveling at the weekend. But I’m all caught up! And ready to share the most important stories I picked out.
Spoiler alert: You’ll notice the big theme is AI. With some key announcements from mainstream consumer apps.
Clearly, it’s a high priority for leaders to explain (or at least tease) how they will leverage AI to rethink and enhance user experiences.

Round-Up
1. Meta and Snapchat show how AI is coming to Social Media. OpenAI has made their API available at a low cost to developers. Making the tech behind ChatGPT more widely available for developers to build on and create new apps or features. Snapchat has created an early example. While Zuckerberg shared Meta’s broader plans.

Snapchat launched a new AI chatbot called ‘My AI’. It is a custom version of ChatGPT, with more restrictions to try to protect users.
Snapchat gave examples of what ‘My AI’ can do like: “recommend birthday gift ideas for your BFF, plan a hiking trip for a long weekend, suggest a recipe for dinner, or even write a haiku about cheese for your cheddar-obsessed pal.”
Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta has created a new generative AI team “focused on building delightful experiences around this technology into all products”.
Longer term the focus is on “AI Personas” (as Snapchat has done), text features (WhatsApp and Messenger) images (Instagram filters and ad formats), and video.
2. Bing Webmaster Tools will show brands how much traffic they are getting from Bing’s new AI Chat integration. Bing Webmaster Tools is a free SEO analysis tool (equivalent to Google Search Console). A recent Bing presentation shows how brands will be able to see impressions, clicks, click-through rates, and more, from Bing Chat. (Search Engine Journal ↗)
3. Google offers auto-created assets for Search Advertising. Google can reference advertiser’s keywords, landing page, domain, and existing assets. Then create new ad assets to make them more relevant to the search query. Ad relevancy is a key factor in ‘quality score’ (which influences how much Google charges advertisers per click). (Search Engine Land ↗)
4. LinkedIn launched Collaborative Articles, which will use AI-generated conversation starters to get members to contribute their knowledge. LinkedIn explained: “starting a conversation is harder than joining one, these Collaborative Articles make it easier for professionals to come together and add and improve ideas - which is how shared knowledge is created.” (Social Media Today ↗)
5. YouTube’s new Head explained how AI tools for creators are on the horizon: “Creators will be able to expand their storytelling and raise their production value, from virtually swapping outfits to creating a fantastical film setting through AI’s generative capabilities”. (YouTube ↗)
