Search results are coming to YouTube
While Google has long claimed YouTube is the world's second-largest search engine, we're now seeing that reality reflected in their product roadmap. YouTube's latest AI-powered feature is designed specifically for product discovery, acknowledging that customers increasingly rely on video content during their research process.
How It Works
When users search YouTube for products, local places, or activities in a specific location, the platform generates a horizontal carousel of relevant video clips
Each video comes with a headline and description written by YouTube, giving users quick context and directing them to the most relevant segment of the video
It’s like a swipeable, rich-media version of search results
The Bigger Picture: Search Is Going Visual
Search no longer means browsing text-based web pages. YouTube is now providing text summaries alongside video content, while Google Search is moving in the opposite direction - inserting more video into traditional search results…
At Google Marketing Live, the company announced that video ads will now appear in Search, Image Search, and Google Shopping. Combined with AI Overviews arriving on YouTube, we're seeing a blend of video and text search experiences across its platforms.
Google is betting that the future of search is more visual and AI-curated, whether you start on YouTube or Google.com.

That means any photo, reel, or video posted by a professional account can appear in public search results. This is a notable shift for Instagram which has traditionally kept most of its content contained within its app.

📈 Threads has narrowed the gap with X in daily mobile app usage
Threads hit 115 million daily mobile users in June, up 128% from last year. While SimilarWeb reported that X has 132 million. However, on the web, X is still out in front with 146 million daily visits, far more than Threads' 7 million and Bluesky’s 6 million users.
🧠 Perplexity has officially launched its AI-first web browser to compete with Chrome
