🔽 Socials Test Curbing Ads

X is the latest to offer ad-free subscriptions

FEATURE

X tests ad-free plan

You can add X to the list of social media companies planning to introduce ad-free plans. Both Meta and TikTok are known to be testing offering paid memberships that remove ads to satisfy EU regulators.

The incentives behind X’s ad-free plans appear different. X is planning a global offer to boost revenue and counter-balance advertisers leaving the platform.

The Premium plan, which currently costs $7.99 a month, would be split into Basic, Standard, and Plus:

Basic plan: will not reduce the number of ads
Standard plan: will show half as many ads
Plus plan: remove ads entirely

Details on the pricing for the new subscriptions haven’t been reported. It is unclear if a free tier will remain at all. Musk floated the idea of charging everyone who uses X a small fee to combat bots.
