Musk muses monthly payments

FEATURE

‘X’ is moving to a monthly subscription fee to combat bots

Elon Musk suggested that the social network may no longer be a free site.

Musk said “a small monthly payment” is necessary to deal with the problem of bots on the platform.

“It’s the only way I can think of to combat vast armies of bots,” claims Musk.

“Because a bot costs a fraction of a penny — call it a tenth of a penny — but even if it has to pay a few dollars, the effective cost of bots is very high,” he explained.

Plus, each bot would need another new payment method which would make running bots at scale challenging.

This also comes after The New York Times broke a story that Meta is considering paid subscriptions in Europe.
