āš–ļø The U.S. DOJ is considering a Google breakup over antitrust violations

@investywise

Catch up: A decision last week held that Google's multi billion payments to companies, including Apple, violate antitrust laws and inhibit consumer choice and innovation.

Next, the court needs to choose a remedy.

That could mean new rules requiring Google to share data or change other business practices.

It could also mean ā€” as Bloomberg and The New York Times reported ā€” a split of the company.

Although in the latter scenario, others are questioning which business units of the Alphabet holding company would meaningfully help lead to greater competition in the search market.

According to both reports, the Google Chrome browser and Android are the most likely business units the DoJ would go after.

Google & Meta

Google has added a new, additional unit to the right hand side of the page, clearly displaying links to the sources referenced in the AI Overview. Google is also testing the addition of links to relevant web pages directly within the text of AI Overviews (in addition to the new right-side links), designed to make it easier for people to click out and visit sites.

Organic traffic may fluctuate as Googleā€™s latest algorithm update looks to promote ā€œsmall or independent sites that are creating useful, original contentā€ and show ā€œless content that feels like it was made just to perform well on Searchā€.

The new bidding system focusing on incrementality will be optional for advertisers. Meta will also introduce a feature called ā€˜Conversion Value Rulesā€™ where businesses can indicate to Meta which audiences of conversions have more value, then optimize campaigns accordingly.
