OpenAI’s effort to challenge Google’s dominance in search launched in beta in July. Still in beta, SearchGPT is growing 150% month-over-month, according to BrightEdge.

The same study found that Perplexity AI and Claude recorded 22% growth in searches. Despite this Brightedge found that Google, with its own AI-driven solution, has not experienced a decline in overall market share.

As AI search grows, the impact on organic traffic to company websites remains a key concern for advertisers. BrightEdge's findings show SearchGPT delivers four times more traffic referrals than Perplexity and Claude.

This suggests SearchGPT is by design a publisher-friendly product, supporting a recent statement by OpenAI’s Head of Media & Partnerships: ā€œWe think there’s an opportunity here to drive significant incremental traffic from new audiencesā€.
