The AI-ification of Google Search continues to roll out

Google is rolling out broader access to AI Mode, placing it as the first tab in its navigation bar.

AI Mode is designed for users to get AI-generated resultsā€”similar to the ChatGPT-style search experience.

The traditional Google Search page remains the default, but users can switch to AI Mode via a tab (like ā€˜Imagesā€™ or ā€˜Newsā€™).

When in AI Mode, users get an AI-generated answer based on Googleā€™s search index, with a few supporting links included. No official announcements on advertising - Google is still exploring options.

According to Googleā€™s VP of Product, early feedback highlights strong performance on complex questions, up-to-date information, and useful follow-ups with helpful links.

Originally available only to Google One Premium subscribers ($20/month), AI Mode is now free and being rolled out to users on the waitlist.
