šŸ“±Googleā€™s AI search summaries officially have ads

Google has introduced ads within its AI Overview feature on mobile for U.S. users.

Ads from existing Shopping, Performance Max, and AI Search campaigns will automatically show in the new placement.

The ads, labelled as "Sponsored," can appear below AI summaries if thereā€™s a ā€œcommercial angleā€ to the chat interaction.

Advertisers will be curious how this new placement compares to traditional placements. However, Google Ads reporting will not allow advertisers to isolate and analyze the performance of these ads within the AI Overview separately.

As Google collects (and, hopefully, shares) more data, the long-term impact on search behavior and ad strategies will likely become clearer.
